Local conversations
Moderated red/blue conversations on the issues Thurston County is actually arguing about, run with a structure that keeps everyone heard.
Thurston County, Washington
Braver Angels Thurston brings together neighbors who vote differently and still want to understand one another. This site is where you can reach our local organizers and stay on our county email list.
We are the Thurston County chapter of Braver Angels, a national nonprofit working to depolarize American politics. Our members are “reds,” “blues,” and plenty of people who refuse either label. What we share is a belief that citizens who disagree can still listen, ask real questions, and stay in the room together.
Locally, that looks like small gatherings in Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and around the county — structured conversations where the goal is understanding rather than winning. You do not need to be a national member, change your mind, or soften your convictions to take part.
“We disagree in public and we still look after each other. That is the whole practice.”
Almost all of our event listings and registration live on the Braver Angels national calendar. Here is the kind of work you will find us doing close to home.
Moderated red/blue conversations on the issues Thurston County is actually arguing about, run with a structure that keeps everyone heard.
Short, practical sessions on listening past a label, disagreeing without contempt, and talking politics with family you love.
Hosting a room, greeting newcomers, moderating, or helping with outreach to civic groups, congregations, and campuses.
Working with libraries, service clubs, and local organizations that want depolarization practice for their own members.
Nearly every workshop, debate, and conversation we host — local and national — is posted and registered through Braver Angels. Browse the calendar there, then come back here to reach us or sign up for county updates.
